Beth is from the Lexington area in Kentucky;
she has spent over 20 years working with kids and families in child care
settings, as a teacher, and as a therapist. She is currently the Associate
Clinic Manager at Bluegrass.org, supervising over 20 staff members and has
provided other workshops on foster care/adoption issues and play therapy.
TBRI (Trust Based
Relational Intervention) is an attachment focused way of
helping children, which was created by Dr Karyn Purvis; Dr Purvis spent her
life studying the affects of trauma on a child's brain and their relationships
with others, and how healing can occur through future healthy relationships,
self awareness, skills and training.
Beth also received training in
Filial and Child Centered Play Therapy. Filial
Therapy was created by Drs. Bernard and Louise Gurney, as they
followed Virginia Axline's child-centered model, teaching the
parent(s)/guardian(s) to use child-centered techniques with their child. The
child centered approach is known for its benefits of regulating emotions and
increase of self awareness, as well as increasing attachment.
Included below are three short
videos from Dr Karyn Purvis, who created TBRI (Trust Based Relational
Intervention). All three show part of the overview of TBRI.
